The Artist
For more than 30 years, “Michael James” made his living as a Corporate Entertainer. - A Professional Magician to be more precise. He toured the world performing at conferences and conventions until the global pandemic shut down all the world's stages, and left him needing to find a new creative outlet. - That's when the pivot happened!
Meet Michael J. Butt
During Michael’s early career, he moonlighted as a baby portrait photographer and later even had a short stint as a school photographer, but it wasn't until 2020 that he dedicated himself to studying the art of nightscape photography - photographing Nova Scotia's landscape at night with the Milky Way and its more than 500 billion stars as a backdrop! Michael has recently expanded his work to include some daytime (dusk and dawn, so not that much of a stretch) landscape and seascape photography, but nightscape photography is where his passion truly lies. Michael’s work has been featured by a number of international photography platforms and both new and established photographers have sought his expertise in creating nightscape images to learn his techniques for what many consider to be the most difficult and technically demanding genre of photography. While a photographers ultimate goal is to capture a stunning image, for Michael it's largely about the process of night photography, finding inspiration and peace in the quiet and stillness that can only be found in the dead of night.
l really love Michael's photos of the Milky Way. When I saw the one of the old hay wagon, I had to have it. It suits our rural country home beautifully!
